Jean Bailey, Ph. D.
Director/Educator Development Programs

As Director for Educator Development Programs, Jean coordinates development opportunities for CMED faculty and community clinicians who teach CMED students. Her primary responsibilities include training and development support for CMED faculty and clinicians through workshops, resources, and individual consultations. Jean earned a Ph.D. in higher, adult, and lifelong education and a master's degree in college and university administration from Michigan State University. She comes to CMED after serving as chief academic officer, dean, and faculty member at the two-year college level. Her favorite part of working for CMED is learning about medical education and working with faculty as they develop curriculum and plan for the courses they will teach.
Andrea Beatty

Andrea Beatty is an Executive Administrative Assistant at the College of Medicine (CMED). Her primary responsibilities include support for the Standardized Patient Program and Clinical Simulation Center. Andrea joined CMED in 2012 supporting Medical Education. She is an alumna of Mid-Michigan Community College where she earned an Associate’s Degree in Business/Management and Marketing. She has studied business and real estate at Ferris State University and is continuing her studies in business at CMU. Andrea has obtained Michigan licenses in Real Estate, Property and Casualty Insurance and Land Title/Research Insurance. She brings with her 20 years of experience in management, marketing, and event and project planning. She values the diversity of the staff, faculty, and students at CMU/CMED, and the opportunities we are providing for our medical students.
Nhu Dargis
Director/Standardized Patient Program

As Director for the Standardized Patient Program with CMU’s College of Medicine (CMED), Nhu provides direction for the development and daily operations of the Clinical Skills Center. Her focus is on the coordination of design, development, and implementation of clinical learning experiences utilizing trained standardized patients and state-of-the-art simulators. Nhu earned her Bachelors of Science degree from Michigan State University and a Masters in Public Administration, with a concentration in Healthcare, from Western Michigan University. Prior to joining CMED, she served as the Administrative Designated Institutional Officer for Graduate Medical Education and Director for Continuing Medical Education at CMED’s East Campus in Saginaw, also known as CMU Healthcare. While working in one of the largest multi-specialty practices in the Great Lakes Bay Region, Nhu brings with her over 12 years of experience in the administration of programs for physician residency training, management of education for third and fourth year medical students and continuing medical education offered to the physicians of north-central Michigan. Her most valued aspect that comes from working at CMED is the opportunity to participate and contribute towards the development of a new and innovative medical school.
Ireta Ekstrom, Ph.D., CPT

Ireta Ekstrom is currently the Instructional Developer for the College of Medicine where she has worked with the science and clinical faculty to build both the curriculum and courses. Before coming to CMED in 2011, she had several years’ experience at a major Michigan hospital creating patient education materials, was the Director of Professional Development and Training at a Detroit nonprofit mental health agency, taught at Oakland University, Wayne State University and Virginia Tech University and worked in Faculty Development at CMU in the Faculty Center for Innovative Teaching (FaCIT). She holds a Master’s and Doctorate in Instructional Technology from Wayne State University and has been extremely active in The International Society for Performance Improvement (ISPI) where she earned the Certified Performance Technologist (CPT) designation. She has been the ISPI Michigan Chapter president (twice), participated in evaluating conference proposals, Certified Performance Technologist applications and Chapter of Excellence applications, has chaired an international conference, has participated in the Chapter Leader’s Committee and is currently one of the past chapter presidents who were chosen to be part of the Chapter Partnership Committee Ambassador Program to mentor struggling chapters.
Amy Faber

Amy Faber is a CMU graduate, earning her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) and Master of Business Administration (MBA) degrees. Employed at CMU since 1999, her background is in financial aid, academic advising, and student orientation programs. As Coordinator of Student Performance and Assessment, Amy works with computerized testing, program evaluation, and course registration, and student assessment. Her responsibilities are to assess student progress and provide individual student feedback; use evaluation data to continuously improve CMED programs, outcomes, and experiences; and administer course registration processes. Amy looks forward to supporting student learning as students pursue their MD degree.

Joel Lanphear, Ph.D.

Dr. Lanphear is an expert in developing partnerships for community engagement in distributed medical education programs and has helped shape medical education programs worldwide. He comes to CMU from the Northern Ontario School of Medicine and brings management and teaching experience from Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine & Health Sciences in Tempe, Ariz., University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth, University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston and United Arab Emirates University. Dr. Lanphear received an undergraduate degree from Western Washington State University, master's from the University of Hawaii and doctorate from Michigan State University.
Brad Long

Brad Long, MSLS, is an Assistant Professor in the University Libraries at Central Michigan University and serves as a Medical Librarian within the College of Medicine (CMED). He has earned a Master of Science in Library Science from Clarion University of Pennsylvania, in addition to a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences from Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania. His primary role is providing library services to the students, faculty, and staff at the CMED West Campus. His favorite part of working in CMED is the opportunity to develop new library services and collections in support of the CMED curriculum. Brad is also an avid fan of baseball, football, and hockey, in addition to enjoying hiking and camping.

Linda Perkowski, Ph.D.

Dr. Perkowski has more than 25 years experience in medical education, curriculum development and evaluation of institutional programs. She came to CMU from the University of Minnesota Medical School where she served as associate dean for curriculum and evaluation. A former Michigan resident, Dr. Perkowski received her undergraduate degree from the University of Texas in Austin, master's degree from Texas A&M University, and doctorate in preventive medicine and community health from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. In addition to several national medical education leadership roles, her academic efforts have focused on student assessment, program evaluation, faculty educator development and accreditation.
Betsy Raleigh

Betsy Raleigh is an Executive Administrative Assistant with the CMU College of Medicine (CMED). Her primary responsibilities include working with the office of medical education on curriculum planning and development. Betsy also assists the College in curriculum approval and accreditation processes. Prior to joining CMED, she worked at CMU’s Global Campus with the International and Online Programs. Betsy’s favorite aspect of working for CMED is the satisfaction of being part of building a medical school program whose graduates will provide much needed quality health care to our communities for generations to come. Outside of work, Betsy is a proud mother and grandmother who enjoys spending time with her growing family.
Shawna Rodabaugh, MBA

Shawna Rodabaugh is the coordinator of anatomical laboratories in a shared position between CMU’s College of Medicine, and College of Health Professions. Prior to this position, Shawna worked as an adjunct instructor at Ferris State University in both the College of Arts and Sciences as well as the College of Allied Health Professions, teaching a range from general biology and anatomy, to statistics and health care courses. She also served as an investigator for the Montcalm County Medical Examiner. Shawna attended Wayne State University, majoring in Mortuary Science, then earned her business degrees from DeVry University and Keller Graduate School.
Steve Vance, M.D.
Associate Professor/Emergency Medicine and Associate Dean/Academic and Clinical Technology

Dr. Vance, a Saginaw native, is a 1997 graduate from Alma College and a 2001 graduate from the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. He completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at Grand Rapids MERC/Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital. He returned to Saginaw with his family in 2004, joining the Covenant Healthcare Emergency Physicians Group and shortly thereafter became core faculty with the Emergency Medicine residency program. His primary area of focus was the use of ultrasound in the ED, especially for invasive procedures. In 2007, Dr. Vance became the founding director of the Department of Medical Simulation at Synergy Medical Education Alliance (now CMU Medical Education Partners). Under his leadership, the center has continued to expand its learner base and educational opportunities, conducting more than 6000 learner hours of training this year. Currently, as the Assistant Dean of Academic and Clinical Technology, he works alongside the College of Medicine IT department to conceptualize, develop and adopt best practice as it pertains to instructional and clinical systems. He enjoys working at the intersection of medical education and technology; areas of scholarly interest include clinical simulation, psychomotor skills training, patient safety and the use of E-learning in medical education. Dr. Vance resides in Saginaw Township with his wife, Sara, and their three sons Collin, Brady and Owen.
Stephanie Wragg, Ph.D.
Associate Dean, Curriculum and Evaluation

Dr. Wragg brings her science background to support the curriculum design efforts. She earned a B.Sc. and M.Sc. from McGill University, a Ph.D. from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, with post-doctoral training at the University of Oxford. Her science background is complemented by extensive experience in medical education and administration, roles with the AAMC Group for Women in Medicine and Science and accreditation teams for the Liaison Committee on Medical Education. She hopes her experience will benefit and support the particular needs of faculty and staff when implementing new programs. She looks forward to integrating into an enthusiastic team of individuals dedicated to creating and delivering a quality program.
