Charmica Abinojar

Charmica Abinojar is the Director of Student Affairs for CMED. Charmica completed her Master’s degree in Organizational Communication at Eastern Michigan University and is currently a doctoral candidate specializing in Higher Education at the University of Toledo. Her duties at the College of Medicine involve the coordination of operations for the Office of Student Affairs, including, career development, advising, orientation, residency application, and managing Medical Student Performance Evaluations (MSPE). Ms. Abinojar’s reason for joining CMED is that she enjoys working with passionate and highly motivated students.
Chris Austin

As director of admissions, Chris is responsible for activities related to recruitment, admissions, and matriculation of medical students. He manages the admissions office and staff and takes a leadership role in developing the marketing and student recruitment programs, as well as the creation of web and print media related to admissions. Chris has been with CMU since 1997 serving in the roles of assistant director of CMU admissions, interim director of Alumni Relations, and most recently associate director of Alumni Relations. He is a CMU alumnus, earning a B.S. in Marketing and Management in 1995 and an MBA in Marketing in 2004. He began his position with the College of Medicine in August of 2012.
Christopher A. Brown
Sr. Associate Director/Financial Aid

Christopher is responsible for administering the scholarship and federal aid programs for students enrolled in the College of Medicine. Christopher comes to the College of Medicine from the CMU Office of Scholarships & Financial Aid, where he has served as an Assistant Director. Prior to joining CMU, he held various positions in the areas of financial aid and admissions at both Alma College and the University of North Carolina at Asheville. He received a B.A.in History from the University of North Carolina at Asheville and am M.A. in Educational Administration and Community Leadership from CMU. He began his position with the College of Medicine in October of 2012. "I know our incoming students are the future of our college and will make a difference in the medical field. When we are able to help them realize this opportunity, it makes a difference."
Melissa Bussear
Executive Administrative Assistant

As the Executive Administrative Assistant, Melissa provides administrative support for the admissions team, coordinates events for the department and is the first line responder to inquiries from applicants about program requirements and the admissions process. Melissa has been with CMU since 2001, most recently with First-Year Experience and the Office of Residence Life where she served at the Coordinator of Administration. She is working to complete her Bachelor of Science in Administration from Central Michigan University. She began her position with the College of Medicine in September 2012.
Candace Johnson
Administrative Assistant

Candace is the primary administrative support for CMED’s office of Student Affairs and Financial Aid. This includes assisting with student inquiries, student interest groups and also with coordinating such exciting events as White Coat, Orientation and Graduation. She has a B.A. in Communication with emphasis in Media & Mass Communication from Alma College, and is currently completing her M.A. in Interpersonal Communication at Central Michigan University. "I am committed to the central Michigan community and am excited to join the CMED team, which shares similar values. By supporting the future physicians at CMED, I will be directly impacting the community in which I work and live." says Candace. She currently serves as the Chair of the Communication Committee for the historic Broadway Theatre in downtown Mount Pleasant.
Jennifer Paulke
Assistant Director/Admissions

Jennifer joined the College of Medicine from Florida Gulf Coast University where she served as assistant director of graduate studies, a position heavily involved in student recruitment and admissions at the graduate level. As Assistant Director of Admissions, Jennifer is responsible for recruitment and community involvement particularly with the universities, colleges, and school systems in Michigan. She works with the Director and the admissions staff in all aspects of medical student admissions. Jennifer received a B.A. in Business Management and an M.A. in Counseling from Cornerstone University. Jennifer is a native of Vestaburg, Michigan. She began her position with the College of Medicine in August of 2012. "I want every applicant to know that CMED might be his or her best choice even if he/she is accepted to other medical schools with storied legacies. Most schools will offer a quality education, but applicants need to choose the one that provides the curriculum, environment and support that they personally need to accomplish their goals. Every applicant is a unique individual, and they need to choose the school that best fits their unique personality and goals."
