Admissions Process

Applying to CMED is a four-step process.

Step One: File an Application with the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS)

To submit an application, visit AMCAS at This initial process includes using the AMCAS letters of recommendation service. For questions, email or call 202-828-0600.

Step Two: Submit a Secondary Application

Select applicants through the AMCAS will be invited to submit a supplemental application to the Central Michigan University College of Medicine.

Once an applicant's supplemental application is received, the CMU College of Medicine will review the completed application materials to determine whether to invite the applicant to participate in the Multiple-Mini Interview (MMI) process.

Step Three: Complete an Interview

Select applicants will be invited to attend an interview day. See Interview Days for more information.

Step Four: Acceptance of Admissions Offers

Applicants who have been selected by the Admissions Committee for admission will be offered admission on a rolling (ongoing) basis throughout the admissions cycle.

Interview Days

Select applicants will be invited to attend Interview Days based on their qualifications and the holistic review.

On your interview day, you can expect the following components:

1.      A tour of the College of Medicine.

An opportunity to visit classrooms, labs, and other important areas of the College. You will be able to ask questions and experience the atmosphere of CMED firsthand.

2.      A Multiple-Mini Interview (MMI) process.

The MMI interview technique has applicants rotate through 10 interview stations with members of the Admissions Committee. Each interviewer poses a pre-developed scenario related to a single theme such as ethical decision-making, critical thinking skills, or communication skills. This rotation gives interviewers opportunities to assess all interviewees within the context of their respective scenario.

No prior medical knowledge is required for the MMI.

All applicants invited to interview at CMED are notified via email. Please be sure to keep your email address current, and notify both AMCAS and Central Michigan University College of Medicine if your email address changes.
