CMU Retiree Status Policy

CMU Retiree Status Criteria

To be considered a CMU Retiree, employees must satisfy one of the following requirements:

  • Twenty-five (25) years of benefits eligible CMU service at any age
  • Ten (10) years of benefits eligible CMU service and at least age fifty-five (55)
  • Ten (10) years of benefits eligible CMU service at any age if totally and permanently disabled as determined by the Social Security Administration

These criteria apply to the following employee groups as of the dates noted below:

  • Professional and Administrative
  • Senior Officer
  • Office Professional
  • Supervisory/Technical
  • Police Officers
  • Sergeants
  • Dispatchers
  • Service Maintenance
  • Fixed-Term Faculty 
  • Public Broadcasting
  • Regular Faculty
  • Medical Faculty

CMU Emeritus Status Criteria

Emeritus status may be awarded to the following groups with Board of Trustees approval:

  • Senior Officer; Professional & Administrative - salaried CMU retiree with at least 10 years of full-time CMU service
  • Regular Faculty - CMU retiree with at least 10 years of service
  • Medical Faculty - CMU retiree with at least 10 years of service
  • Fixed-Term Faculty - CMU retiree with at least 10 years of service
  • Board of Trustees upon completion of at least 8 years of service

If you qualify for CMU Retiree status, you are eligible for certain additional courtesies:

  • Parking decal for free on-campus parking
  • Campus ID
  • Participation in a retirement recognition ceremony
  • Discounts on SAC membership
  • Tuition Waiver for retiree only
  • Email (1 year grace period for all retirees)
