To better understand the treaties signed between Native American tribes resident in Michigan and the federal government the staff of the Clarke Library has developed two case studies dealing with the nineteenth century application of treaties.  The first case study involves Indian relocation of some tribes from Michigan to the trans-Mississippi West which took place in 1833. The second historical essay discusses land distribution an ownership patterns that resulted from the creation of an Indian reservation in Isabella County, Michigan.
